Ubisoft recently revealed that the initial sales for Star Wars Outlaws performed "softer than expected" when it launched last month.

Set between the events of The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi, the game followed a scoundrel named Kay Vess who formed a team for a heist to pay off a crime syndicate and start a new life.

Since its release, it has received mostly positive reviews from critics as they praised its world-building and the character of Nix. However, it also received criticism for its technical issues.

In their recent financial update statement, Ubisoft acknowledged that the initial sales of Star Wars Outlaws performed "softer than expected" despite the positive reviews.

"Despite solid ratings (Metacritic 76) and user scores across the First Party and Epic stores (3.9/5) that reflect an immersive and authentic Star Wars universe, Star Wars Outlaws initial sales proved softer than expected," the company said.

"In response to player feedback, Ubisoft’s development teams are currently fully mobilized to swiftly implement a series of updates to polish and improve the player experience in order to engage a large audience during the holiday season to position Star Wars Outlaws as a strong long-term performer."

Following the release of the game, the company's shares plummeted to a near 10-year low while the release of Assassin's Creed Shadows was delayed.

As the company said in their statement, they are continuing to work on the game even if it's already been released in an attempt to attract more players with improved experience.

After all, it has received complaints regarding the technical issues and that might have affected the word-of-mouth on the game and why its sales have been underperforming.

It would be interesting to see whether it will improve in the coming weeks or it will remain a disappointment.
