Game Of Thrones Season 8: Here's Why [SPOILERS] Last Line Was So Important

In case you missed it, Game of Thrones Season 8 Episode 4 is probably the most depressing episode to date. Although The Last of the Starks had a pretty low body count, the deaths in the episode along with a single yet absolutely important word truly raised the stakes.

SPOILERS HERE! If you haven't seen the latest episode of Game of Thrones, turn back now!

The episode started out pretty hopeful as Daenerys Targaryen finally headed for King's Landing to claim the Iron Throne. However, she immediately found out that she wasn't prepared for Cersei Lannister's plan. The Iron Fleet was already waiting for her ships and Euron Greyjoy took down one of Daenerys' beloved dragons with the scorpions designed by Qyburn.

It doesn't stop with the loss of Rhaegal. Dany's most loyal advisor Missandei is also taken captive and beheaded in front of her at the gates of King's Landing. But before that, Cersei allowed Missandei to speak her last words. She only had one: "Dracarys."

It's a High Valyrian word for "dragonfire" and we should know it by now since Dany always shouts it to get her dragons to breathe fire on her enemies. However, it has more significant meaning when you consider Dany's relationship with Missandei all these years.

Dany first met Missandei in Astapor when she was serving as a translator for Kraznys. When Dany purchased the Unsullied, she also demanded to add Missandei to the deal. As soon as she was given ownership of the soldiers, Dany immediately ordered Drogon to burn Kraznys.

Interestingly, "Dracarys" somehow became a word associated with Missandei's freedom back in the third season. Perhaps Missandei wanted to confirm her loyalty to the Mother of Dragons by shouting it out before her death. It's also possible that Missandei was claiming her own freedom all over again with her final word.

However, there is another possible reason why Missandei chose the word. She may have been telling Dany that it is finally time to burn King's Landing down to defeat Cersei and Euron. We already know that Dany trusts her advice so it wouldn't be a surprise if Dany burns the city down to the ground.

There are so many possibilities here but for now, we will mourn for Missandei of Naath.
