The upcoming DC Universe series The People v. Gorilla Grodd may be billed as a mockumentary crime comedy, but lead star Skyler Gisondo teases that it will feature surprisingly big stakes.

While details about the show remain tightly under wraps, early behind-the-scenes looks hint at a DC project unlike any other, including an a cappella performance of LMFAO’s “Party Rock Anthem.” So, what major stakes can fans expect from The People v. Gorilla Grodd?

DC Studios proves it’s not afraid to take a path not many superhero movies and series have taken with its first R-rated horror movie, Clayface.

Now, it’s about to take another risk with its upcoming mockumentary series, The People v. Gorilla Grodd.

However, according to Skyler Gisondo, the show will not be purely silly as some might think, and not everything will be goofy and inconsequential.

Teasing “surprisingly big stakes,” the series may feature tie-ins to other movies and series and could even introduce major plot points in the DCU.

“There’s a difference between being a piece of the puzzle in a very big movie, where you can come in, take really big swings and try things, and being more at the center of a story,” he told Deadline. “It’s a different kind of thing. I think the stakes of the show are surprisingly big. It’s deeply funny, and I think people are going to be surprised by the stakes, where it goes, and how big it gets.”

The actor also teased that fans are about to see his character differently this time, describing him as “a more intense version of Jimmy Olsen than we’ve seen before.”

With its unusual premise and potentially bigger DCU connections, The People v. Gorilla Grodd could be far more significant than its comedic setup initially suggests.

After his introduction as Jimmy Olsen in James Gunn’s Superman, Skyler Gisondo returns with his own DCU series, The People v. Gorilla Grodd.

Here, he will re-examine the high-profile murder trial of Gorilla Grodd, who was convicted of murdering his father, the King of Gorilla City.

The Daily Planet photographer reopens the case to investigate whether Grodd, who possesses psychic powers and other abilities following his encounter with an alien spaceship, was wrongfully convicted in one of Metropolis’ most famous murder trials.

In addition to Gisondo, other Superman stars will also return to reprise their roles, including Beck Bennett as Steve Lombard, Mikaela Hoover as Cat Grant, and Wendell Pierce as Perry White.

New faces will also join the series, such as Mary Holland, Eduardo Franco, Arian Moayed, Dan Perrault, Andrew Leeds, and Tim Baltz.

The People v. Gorilla Grodd is expected to be released in late 2027.
