Fan-favorite Superman character Jimmy Olsen is set to star in his own DCU spinoff project, as he will lead a fictional true crime series.

Since the release of the DCU blockbuster hit last summer, fans have been wondering whether some of the characters introduced in the film will receive their own spinoff projects, expanding the franchise to new heights. Fortunately, it appears that a beloved character from The Daily Planet is next in line to receive his own spotlight in an exciting project.

Variety confirmed that DC Studios and HBO Max are developing a fictional true-crime series set in the DCU, hosted by Jimmy Olsen.

Skyler Gisondo will be reprising the fan-favorite character from Superman. The spinoff series project, titled DC Crime, will be presented as a true crime docuseries that investigates the super-villains that exist in the DCU.

The first season will focus on fan-favorite villain Gorilla Grodd, who is usually known for battling the Flash in the comics.

American Vandal's Tony Yacenda and Dan Perrault are attached to serve as writers and showrunners of the project. DC Studios chairmen James Gunn and Peter Safran will serve as executive producers.

It is unknown yet which other characters from Superman (especially those within the Daily Planet) will appear in the spinoff series, but don't expect the focus to be on David Corenswet's Clark Kent and Rachel Brosnahan's Lois Lane.

Jimmy Olsen became one of the breakout characters in Gunn's Superman last summer, and since then, fans have been hoping that he would be featured more in future DCU projects.

What's Next for Superman in the DCU?

Gunn confirmed that DC Studios is moving forward with the next Superman movie titled Man of Tomorrow. It is set for release on July 9, 2027.

David Corenswet and Nicholas Hoult are confirmed to reprise their respective roles of Superman/Clark Kent and Lex Luthor. Just like the first movie, Gunn is also serving as the director and writer of the project.

While most of the plot details are under wraps, Gunn teased that the film "is a story about Lex Luthor and Superman having to work together to a certain degree against a much, much bigger threat."
