Arthur's Grim Fate in Joker 2 Drives Fans Into a Frenzy
Prior to the release of Joker: Folie à Deux, an anonymous source spilled the beans on what fans can expect from the ending of Arthur Fleck and Harley Quinn's Gotham love story.
Keep in mind that Joker 2 director Todd Phillips cryptically teased that the "unsettling" ending would leave fans stunned at how things unfolded for Arthur and Harley, which wasn't received well by fans via leaked spoilers.
But before we can dig deep into why the ending led disappointed fans out of theaters, check out some of their first reactions upon seeing Arthur Fleck's divisive fate:
Although Joker 2 delivered on its promise of a different take on Harley 'Lee' Quinn (played by Lady Gaga), it would seem that the plot wasn't driven entirely to uplift Arthur up 'til the end.
Instead, DC fans shared their thoughts on how the "mediocre plot" clearly stated the filmmakers had "no clue what to do with the sequel."
For the uninitiated, the leaked ending indicated that Arthur Fleck's seemingly explosive suicide turned out to be a hoax. It was a form of distraction so he could run away together with Lee. That, however, turns things around for him.
As Lee realizes that Arthur's 'Joker' side is the man she fell in love with, she ditches him and Arthur gets arrested once more for his additional crimes of wreaking havoc in Gotham City.
Worse — when Arthur returns to prison, his fellow inmate stabs him to death as some kind of sick joke. The stabbing part was the punchline. The credits roll, as though to imply that the inmate was the Clown Prince of Crime all along.
