Joker: Folie à Deux is ramping up the excitement of DC fans ahead of its theatrical release at the thought of a potential standalone flick for Lady Gaga's Harley Quinn. Here's what Joker 2 director Todd Phillips had to say about the potential spinoff.

While DC fans are curious to find out how the Joker sequel ends things for Arthur Fleck's fate, they also look forward to how Lady Gaga's Harley Quinn future turns out for the franchise.

Based on the musicality element in Joker: Folie à Deux and of course, Gaga's performance as Harley in general, fans are actually hoping to see more of her version of the Cupid of Chaos as a standalone flick.

Even though it's pretty much too early to tell, here's what Joker 2 director Todd Phillips recently said about that.

"That's probably— that's not— I don't know," Phillips tried to answer with no comment left for fans and the media to speculate over.

However, when asked directly if he would be interested in a standalone flick for Harley, Phillips said, "For me, I always thought that these two movies kind of exist as their own thing. I know you're trying to get the next thing [after Joker 2], but no, I don't want to get into that."

Keep in mind that Phillips is not technically saying no to a possible standalone flick, but would rather keep the focus on the Crown Prince of Crime's sequel story first over anything else.

Considering that Joker: Folie à Deux serves as Gaga's official debut as a unique take on Harley Quinn, the live-action adaptation could eventually push through for her own solo flick (that is if things run well at the box office for it).

The first Joker may have won its own Oscar award, but could the sequel render the same result?
