As if Joker: Folie à Deux wasn't divisive enough, director Todd Phillips claims the "unsettling" ending of Joker 2 will leave fans on the edge of their seats. Here's what the helmer had to say about THAT ending.

SPOILER WARNING: This article contains major spoilers for the ending of Joker: Folie à Deux, so proceed with caution.

Joker: Folie à Deux Director Details How "Unsettling" Ending Clears Up Unanswered Questions

The story of how Arthur Fleck became the Joker Todd Phillips introduced in 2019 was already unnerving, but the sequel will not leave DC fans hanging, as the director promised. If anything, this could mark the end of the Joker once and for all.

"For the people that have seen this movie in general... at the end, they sit and they don't move for about three to five minutes," Phillips noted, adding that he personally experienced firsthand reactions (and it's not about a post-credit scene), "Then they text me, the ones that know me, or email me and go, 'I need a minute to process the movie."

He explained that while the ending is considered 'unsettling', it is significant to the progression of Arthur Fleck's story in Gotham City, "I think it's unsettling, [but it] clarifies a lot of things that you might have had questions about in the first movie. I hope it all gets answered."

While Joker 2 has yet to grace the screens with this "unsettling" ending Phillips speaks of, the latest trailer pretty much teases what DC fans can expect from the 'explosive' curtain call from Arthur himself.

The Joker sequel follows the aftermath of Arthur Fleck's crimes in the first flick. Awaiting his trial at Arkham while struggling with his two identities, he stumbles upon love and "finds the music that's always been inside him", according to the official synopsis.

But don't expect the typical Harley Quinn from the canon DC Universe. Lady Gaga's Harleen "Lee" Quinzel isn't the same lovesick fool we've known her to be.
