David Harbour has finally broken his silence following his divorce from Lily Allen, admitting he has made “mistakes” in the past.
After debuting their relationship in 2019, the former couple tied the knot in September 2020 and called it quits in February 2025. The singer-songwriter officially filed for divorce in September this year.
What Did David Harbour Say About His Divorce from Lily Allen?

After staying silent since his split from Allen, Harbour candidly confessed to the “mistakes” he had made—saying he would want to “change either everything or nothing” if given the chance.
“You either accept your path completely and realize that even the pain, the slip-ups, and the mistakes are all part of the journey—that there’s truth, growth, wisdom, and deeper empathy and connection in all of it,” he told Esquire UK.
He added that it’s about sharing his life in a way that helps others feel and reflect on their own.
“If you’ve never been through anything, what do you really have to offer?” he continued. “If I were to change anything, I’d change everything and just make my life happy and silly and like, whatever—and then I wouldn’t be an artist anymore. And that would suck.”
The Stranger Things star, who has recently made headlines after co-star Millie Bobby Brown accused him of bullying and harassment, also opened up about his future plans, expressing his desire to tell rich and complex stories alongside his personal goals.
“Then, of course, there’s personal stuff that I want to do—people that I want to love, be good to, and nurture. Things like that,” he revealed.
Why Did David Harbour and Lily Allen Split?

Rumors about Harbour and Allen’s split began swirling in February 2025, with a source telling People that their marriage “has been crumbling and they split.”
Before these claims surfaced, the actress had already hinted on her Miss Me? podcast that she wasn’t in a good place.
“I’m finding it hard to be interested in anything. I’m really not in a good place,” she admitted. “I know I’ve been talking about it for months, but I’ve been spiraling and spiraling. It’s got out of control. I’ve tried.”
She was also reportedly spotted on the celebrity dating app Raya at the end of 2024—the same platform where she met Harbour before making their relationship official in January 2019.
While neither Allen nor Harbour revealed the reason behind their breakup, the Dreamland star appeared to imply that her ex was a “sex addict” who cheated on her in her bombshell new album, West End Girl.
The 14-track record features scathing lyrics that seemingly reference the breakdown of their marriage.
In the track “Dallas Major,” she alludes to an “open relationship” where her partner “went astray.” She also accuses this partner of leading a “double life” in the song “P-sy Palace” and recalls finding a stash of adult toys, lube, and “hundreds” of condoms.
Allen even references discovering a receipt for a designer bag from Bergdorf Goodman in “4chan Stan.”
“You took someone shopping there in May 24,” she sings. “You bought her a handbag, it wasn’t cheap / I was in London, probably asleep. Why won’t you tell me what her name is? This is outrageous / What, is she famous?”
Finally, in “Tennis,” she recounts a confrontation over text messages with a woman named Madeline, asking whether the relationship was “just sex, or is there emotion?”
