We've seen a who's who of Hollywood actors take on the role of Batman in live-action and wherever fans debate about which one is the superior caped crusader, it's almost guaranteed that George Clooney will make the bottom of the list, thanks to the bitter taste 1997's Batman & Robin left in a lot of fans' mouths.
Now that the DCEU is set to explore the Multiverse via Ezra Miller's standalone The Flash film, there's been talk within the fandom about Clooney's potential involvement in the film which will see both Ben Affleck and Michael Keaton reprise their Batman roles. There were even rumors that circulated online that Warner Bros. was in serious talks with him regarding The Flash, something that Clooney was quick to dismiss.
Now, the multi-awarded actor is opening up about a possible return as the caped crusader and why he thinks it might never happen. Appearing at an advanced screening of his upcoming film The Tender Bar, Clooney told Variety the real reason why he isn't appearing in the upcoming DCEU film. According to him, WB simply didn't ask him to return for the multiversal project.
Shockingly enough, George claims that he was responsible for destroying the '90s Batman film franchise and he cites that as the main reason why he wasn't asked to make a cameo in the film. "They didn't ask me," Clooney told Variety. "When you destroy a franchise the way I did, usually they look the other way when The Flash comes by."

It's actually understandable why WB didn't bother asking Clooney to be involved in The Flash but I gotta say, they kinda dropped the ball on him. Sure, a lot of fans still haven't forgotten about the atrocious Batman & Robin but a potential DCEU appearance from Clooney could've served as his redemption story. By no means was he a terrible Batman and Bruce Wayne and if anything, it's how the film was written that contributed to it being a colossal flop.
The Flash is slated for release in November 2022.
