The DC Universe continues to expand with its third live-action TV series, Lanterns, following Creature Commandos and Peacemaker Season 2, as part of Chapter One: Gods and Monsters. This time, however, the franchise is taking fans in a different direction by exploring a new side of the Green Lantern mythology.

Rather than telling another origin story, Lanterns blends cosmic sci-fi with detective mystery as veteran Green Lantern Hal Jordan (Kyle Chandler) teams up with rookie John Stewart (Aaron Pierre) to investigate a murder in the American heartland, only to uncover a far-reaching conspiracy with universe-shaking consequences.

If you're eagerly awaiting the DCU's next series, here's where to watch Lanterns online, along with recommended VPN services to help you stream it if it's unavailable in your region or preferred streaming platform.

Where to Stream Lanterns

Lanterns is scheduled to premiere on August 16, 2026, with its eight episodes releasing weekly.

Streaming Platform(s)

HBO Max is the primary streaming home for Lanterns, as the series is produced by Warner Bros. Discovery. New episodes will also air on HBO before becoming available to stream on HBO Max. As a result, the series will not be available — at least not initially — on competing streaming platforms such as Netflix, Disney+, or Prime Video.

Can Kyle Chandler Redeem Green Lantern?

Fans may already know Nathan Fillion's Guy Gardner from the 2025 film Superman, but he is just one of several Green Lanterns in the DC Universe. Lanterns shifts the spotlight to two of the franchise's most iconic heroes: Hal Jordan and John Stewart.

Of the pair, Hal Jordan is arguably the most influential figure in Green Lantern mythology, and Kyle Chandler's portrayal in the HBO series could become one of the character's strongest live-action adaptations.

In the comics, Hal is a former test pilot who inherits the Green Lantern ring from the dying Abin Sur, becoming Earth's first official member of the Green Lantern Corps

Although Alan Scott predates him as a Green Lantern on Earth, his powers originate from a different source, and he is not traditionally part of the Corps. As a founding member of the Justice League and one of the Green Lantern Corps' greatest heroes, Hal has long been central to DC's mythology.

Following the disappointing reception of Ryan Reynolds' Green Lantern (2011), Lanterns could finally give the character the live-action redemption fans have been waiting for and potentially pave the way for a standalone Green Lantern movie in the DCU, or future seasons if this debut one goes well.
