As reported by TheWrap, David Zaslav recently addressed the fate of the DCU franchise during Warner Bros. Discovery's Q2 earnings call.
He expressed his excitement about the upcoming sequels Man of Tomorrow and The Batman Part II, which are both currently in production.
"On the DC side, James [Gunn] is focused on Man of Tomorrow. I saw some pictures yesterday that looked amazing," Zaslav said.
"Actually, yesterday was James’ birthday, and he’s out working. He’s working 16, 18 hours a day. It looks fantastic. We’re super excited about it. Matt Reeves, I spoke to over the weekend, and he’s working very hard on Batman."
However, when it comes to the disappointing box office performance of Supergirl, Zaslav declined to address the issue. Instead, he hyped up the upcoming DCU projects and suggested that the slate will remain as is.
He added, "We have Clayface coming up soon, which looks terrific. We got Lanterns launching in the next few weeks on HBO, which Casey [Bloys] and Sarah [Aubrey] are super excited about. So DC feels very good, and we have a robust pipeline, and Peter [Safran] and James are hard at work."
What's Next in the DCU Franchise
Up next in the DCU slate is the upcoming series Lanterns, which will premiere on HBO and HBO Max on August 16. It will consist of eight episodes.
It follows new recruit John Stewart (Aaron Pierre) and Lantern legend Hal Jordan (Kyle Chandler), two intergalactic cops drawn into a dark, earth-based mystery with cosmic ties as they investigate a murder in the American heartland.
Meanwhile, on the theatrical side, next in the DCU slate is Clayface, a body horror movie that will arrive in theaters on October 23. It stars Tom Rhys Harries and Naomi Ackie.
