Are There Deleted Scenes in Stranger Things Season 5? Showrunners Set the Record Straight

Stranger Things season 5

The Duffer Brothers have finally set the record straight on the rumors that there were deleted scenes in the fifth season of Stranger Things.

Following the airing of the Volume Two episodes last Christmas, a rumor surfaced online that allegedly claimed that Netflix cut some scenes in the hit show's final scene, including a major moment between Will and Mike. As a result, an online petition was created, signed by thousands of fans, which clamors for the streamer to release the deleted footage.

Speaking recently with Variety, The Duffer Brothers addressed the rumors and online fan petition surrounding the alleged deleted scenes in the final season of Stranger Things.

They disputed the claims that they cut some major scenes in the hit show's fifth season.

"Someone sent it to us, yeah. Obviously, that’s not a real thing," Matt Duffer said.

Ross Duffer added, " I have not seen that! I don’t think there’s a single cut scene in the entire season."

Matt Duffer weighed in on why he thinks an online petition was made by fans, despite the lack of confirmation that there were deleted scenes in the final season, and how Netflix has been supportive of their vision.

"The show has just grown so massive. Online, there’s just so much misinformation. Just tons of it. We would be here for hours trying to bat down the stuff that was not true. But at the end of the day, hopefully the work speaks for itself, and it is the show that Ross and I wanted to make," he explained.

"Netflix was, and has always been, incredible. I mean, there’s no interference or direction at all from them on us. They really trust us, and that’s been true from Season 1 on. It’s never changed, even though the show and the size of the audience have grown."

Is There a Stranger Things Spinoff Series in the Works?

The animated prequel series, Stranger Things: Tales from '85, is set to premiere on Netflix later this year.

The story takes place between the events of the second and third seasons. Set in 1985, it’s a freezing winter in Hawkins, and our heroes are about to embark on an epic journey where "the original characters must fight new monsters and unravel a paranormal mystery terrorizing their town," the logline reads.

The Duffer Brothers are involved as executive producers of the series, while Flying Bark worked on the animation. However, the main cast from the series won't be reprising their roles.

A live-action spinoff series is also currently in development, but the details are still under wraps as the team is working on finalizing the main idea of the project.

"And the spinoff, it relates in some ways, but it really is a completely different story and a completely different location with completely different actors and characters. So it's its own. It's really its own entity," Matt Duffer teased.
