With the final season approaching, fans have been wondering whether Netflix and The Duffer Brothers are planning to do a spinoff series of Stranger Things and expand the franchise.
The hit show is set to have an epic conclusion with a nine-episode final season that will wrap up the entire Upside Down saga that they've been exploring since the beginning. However, considering its massive popularity, it is now expected to become a major franchise for Netflix that will expand the lore and mythology of the main series.
Is Netflix and the Duffer Brothers Working on a Stranger Things Spinoff Series?

In an interview with Deadline, The Duffer Brothers confirmed that they are moving forward with a Stranger Things spinoff series, and they recently pitched the idea to Netflix.
While they declined to share any details about the project, they noted that they'd had the idea since the fourth season was released.
"We are moving forward with it. Netflix, they finally know what it is. We held it. They were so frustrated. We just would not tell them. Finn [Wolfhard] guessed what it was. So he was the only one who knew," Matt said.
Ross added, "I think he might have forgotten, though, honestly, because last time he brought it up, I was like, ‘That’s not what it is.’ Maybe he was just being coy. I don’t know."
Wolfhard previously suggested that the spinoff series could have an anthology twist or be set in a Russian lab that has no connection to the Hawkins characters.
"No, that’s the funny thing, because everyone freaked out that he had revealed what the spin-off was. I think he forgot. I actually need to talk to him about it, but anyway, now everybody at Netflix knows. They’re very excited behind it there," Matt said.
"I’m really excited about the team we’ve assembled that I can’t talk about without potentially getting into trouble, but we’ll put out more information soon. We’re trying to get it to go pretty quickly. So hopefully it’s gonna happen soon."
For now, the only spinoff project that is currently in the works is the animated series, Stranger Things: Tales from '85, which takes place between the second and third seasons. It is set to premiere on Netflix in 2026.
What to Expect in the Final Season of Stranger Things
According to the logline for the final season of Stranger Things, set in the fall of 1987, "Hawkins is scarred by the opening of the Rifts, and our heroes are united by a single goal: find and kill Vecna. But he has vanished — his whereabouts and plans unknown. Complicating their mission, the government has placed the town under military quarantine and intensified its hunt for Eleven, forcing her back into hiding."
"As the anniversary of Will’s disappearance approaches, so does a heavy, familiar dread. The final battle is looming — and with it, a darkness more powerful and more deadly than anything they’ve faced before. To end this nightmare, they’ll need everyone — the full party — standing together, one last time."
The final season will be released across three phases: Volume 1 (four episodes) on November 26, Volume 2 (three episodes) on Christmas Day, December 25, and Volume 3 (the final episode) on New Year's Eve, December 31.
