What did Aemond's High Valyrian words to Vhagar mean in House of the Dragon season 2 episode 7? Just as he and his dragon dawn on Dragonstone territory, the sight leads the one-eyed Prince to turn away in a hurry. What happened?

Aemond Mounts Vhagar To Swoop Into Dragonstone

Aemond Targaryen and his dragon Vhagar had proven time and time again since House of the Dragon season 1 that they would kill everyone who dared to stand in their way.

Considering that Aemond defeated his brother, Aegon II, and Rhaenys Targaryen along with their dragons, Sunfyre and Meleys, with the largest and oldest dragon, Vhagar, anyone would think that he could flee towards the Black faction and commit the same tragedy in season 2 episode 7.

However, something in Aemond stirred upon landing his eyes on an unexpected lineup that Queen Rhaenyra Targaryen herself oversaw on Dragonstone.

Despite being initially convinced that the Blacks' dragons without their riders would serve no purpose in defeating the Green faction, Aemond spoke to Vhagar in High Valyrian to urge him to retreat. What was it and what stopped him?

Why Aemond Chose To Hold Back and Turn Away

Aemond gives chase on top of Vhagar, only to witness the potential of defeat in the knick of time.

As soon as he witnessed the three dragons with their own new riders on Dragonstone, Aemond tells Vhagar, "No, Vhagar. Flee, Vhagar. Turn around!" Had he missed with his one eye what awaited him in Rhaenyra's territory, he and Vhagar would have been done for.

Remember, Aemond was only able to defeat Meleys and Sunfyre's riders merely because of their size, and the facade that he was on Aegon II's side in that fight.

Aemond and Vhagar prefer to play dirty when it comes to pulling tricks up their sleeve. However, coming up against three empowered dragons with their riders, and Rhaenyra at the center of them all could have instantly trapped Aemond into losing their one and only asset in this war.
