Superhero movies are expected to be action-packed, but other than that, romances are still inevitably present in these kinds of stories. The complicated yet tension-filled love story of Tony Stark, aka Iron Man, and Pepper Potts; the most endearing yet tragic romance between Wanda Maximoff, aka Scarlet Witch, and Vision; and the timeless and satisfying love story between Steve Rogers, aka Captain America, and Peggy Carter. Other than these iconic superhero couples, Peter Parker, aka Spider-Man (Tom Holland), and Michelle "MJ" Jones’ (Zendaya) romance also had its effect on the fans.
MJ and Peter’s relationship had to suffer the collateral damage of Spider-Man needing to wipe the world’s memory of his existence to save the Multiverse. As it currently stands in the MCU, MJ has no idea who Peter Parker is. Marvel just released Spider-Man: No Way Home, The Official Movie Special Book, via Twitter user @backtosnack_TTV. In a few of its pages, actress Zendaya reflected on MJ’s brief time with Spider-Man.
“The heartbreaking thing, for me, as someone who cares about Peter and MJ, is the fact that they got probably just a few weeks to enjoy being kids in a new relationship and love...and then everything explodes in their face. I was like, ‘No, they deserve happiness!’” pointed out, Zendaya. “I think what's important is they [MJ and Peter] love each other for who they are. It's clear from the first movie that she probably loved him long before she figured out that he was Spider-Man. And he appreciates and loves all her quirky takes on life.”

The award-winning actress also explained that MJ and Peter's love story is not just straight-up high school romance; it's something more than that.”What's cool is [MJ and Peter] each understand each other on a real human level, which allows them to be more vulnerable. That has been the fun thing: watching her become more vulnerable as she knows that Peter loves her.” she reasoned. “[MJ is] a very ‘glass half empty,’ negative person, but he [Peter] brings out this hopeful, positive side of her. I think that's sweet to watch - how they bring out these different parts of each other and rely on each other in different ways.”
Despite their unhappy ending on screen, as real-life partners, Zendaya and Holland are having a good love story going on. There aren't many hints about the future of the couple in No Way Home, but there is one that stands out in the screenplay. Even though it's a little over-detailed, the page reveals that during her final exchange with Peter Parker in the coffee shop, MJ experiences a "flicker of déjà vu," which opens the possibility of a lovers reunion later on.
