One of the most controversial things about Batman v Superman is that the movie's Caped Crusader actually kills people, and comic readers know that that's a big no-no when it comes to Bruce Wayne. As per Zack Snyder though, he says it's part of his darker take on the character.
During a Q & A panel after a screening of Watchmen, Snyder scoffs at the people who were criticizing his movie for having Batman kill people. Watch his reaction:
By the looks of it, the Batman that Snyder was introducing was already disillusioned after all his years protecting Gotham, and that's why he appears more brutal in the film. In a sense, Snyder was trying to channel Watchmen with the project, and Batman was close to being as violent as Rorschach.
It was said that the original plan was to have Batman like this, then when Justice League came long, he would go back to being hopeful after his run-in with Superman. Of course, we never got to see those plans come to fruition, and Ben Affleck is now off the role.
With the MCU films being the only superheroes in the box office, I kind of liked where Snyder was going, giving us more mature takes on superheroes. Sure it's not as kid-friendly or hopeful, but I think it's always interesting to see that type of characterization as compared to the infallible heroes that Marvel has been giving us. I mean, if you watch Tony Stark in the first Iron Man compared to Infinity War, you could say that he's barely the same character.
For now, Batman's solo movie is set to come out June 25, 2021.
