X-Men Star Fan Bingbing Breaks Off Engagement Following Tax Evasion Scandal

Fan Bingbing may have used Blink's teleporting powers to magically disappear from the public eye following a tax scandal but she might need something more powerful to avoid heartbreak. The X-Men: Days of Future Past star has just confirmed that she has broken off her engagement to Chinese actor Li Chen.

Fan made the announcement on her official Weibo page, which is the Chinese version of Twitter (via ComicBook). Although the reason behind the split was not revealed, the Skiptrace actress stated that she and Li would remain friends.

"In one's lifetime, there are many goodbyes," Fan said. "Thank you for everything you have given me — the support and love — along the way. Thank you for your care and love in the future. We will not be an 'us' anymore, but we are still us."

Fan and Li met in 2014 while working on the TV series The Empress of China where Fan portrayed Wu Zetian, the only female emperor in Chinese history. The couple was officially engaged in 2017.

In 2018, the Chinese government accused Fan of tax evasion charges which possibly led to the actress being prevented from working on film and TV. Fan reportedly owed the government around $125 million in back taxes. During the scandal, Fan is said to have disappeared although there were reports that she was seen in an immigration office in Los Angeles. Fan was reportedly seeking sanctuary as advised by Skiptrace co-star Jackie Chan.

She is still nowhere to be found but there's a possibility that Fan is still out there trying to deal with a broken heart.
