X-Men '97 has finally tapped a new writer who will take over as the showrunner for season 3, which is currently in development.
Before the series premiered, the original head writer Beau DeMayo was notably fired by Marvel Studios after working for two seasons. Up to this day, it is still unknown why he was let go from the position.
Since then, fans have been curious to find out which new writer Marvel will hire to take over the daunting task of continuing the show's acclaimed run in its upcoming seasons.
Matthew Chauncey Set as New Writer for X-Men '97 Season 3
It was recently confirmed that What If...? writer Matthew Chauncey has been tapped to serve as the new head writer/showrunner for X-Men '97 season 3.
DeMayo already wrote the scripts for the second season, which has reportedly been revised, before his exit which is why Chauncey will begin his duty in the third season instead.
Jake Castorena, the head director of the series, is expected to continue his duty in the third season and work directly with Chauncey in shaping its storyline.
Chauncey is a Marvel Studios veteran as he penned three episodes of Ms. Marvel and has served as one of the main writers of What If...? since the beginning. He also worked as a script doctor on Thor: Love and Thunder.
He was behind some of the beloved episodes of What If...? such as "What If... T'Challa Become a Star-Lord?," "What If... Hela Found the Ten Rings?," and many more.
While Chauncey is a proven good writer for Marvel, he still has a daunting task in taking over X-Men '97 since DeMayo set a high standard on the writing of the series and hopefully, he is a worthy successor who can capture the same magic that DeMayo did when he conceived the series.
