X-Men '97 has been an eagerly awaited animation series from Marvel, so it makes sense why fans are highly anticipating the official release date for X-Men '97 season 2.

The show was meant to revive the original 1992 X-Men: The Animated Series, with the story continuing where the show left off.

While season 2 of X-Men '97 was already greenlit as early as July 2022, here is everything you need to know about its release date predictions and potential plotlines.

X-Men '97 Season 2 Release Date Predictions

Animation takes a much longer time to produce, which is why X-Men '97 season 2 had been greenlit ahead of the first season's premiere.

This is also how the showrunners managed to get a headstart on writing the second season's finale.

"[Production] is going really, really well. We're just in post-production on season 1 and [right now] writing the finale for season 2," showrunner Beau DeMayo previously said.

This should ease fans to keep their patience on waiting out season 2, especially since there is no confirmation yet on the official release date for it.

Marvel Studios Head of TV Brad Winderbaum expresses a positive update, though, on the off chance that X-Men '97 season 2 could premiere sooner than we think: "I wish it could come out tomorrow. The reality is it just takes time and we want to make it as good as it can possibly be."

Considering all the reasons mentioned above, a release date of late 2025 to early 2026 for X-Men '97 season 2 appears to be the most likely scenario for now.

However, more updates are expected in the coming months, so stay tuned.

Potential Issues X-Men '97 Season 2 Might Face

Initially, X-Men '97 faced a release date delay, where, instead of the original release date of fall 2023, the premiere was moved to March 20, 2024.

This was due to the 2023 WGA strike and SAG-AFTRA strike, both of which have already been resolved.

Another factor is related to the production delays. Winderbaum added in the same interview that there's always a "season one and two lag" in animation since the studio or network "wants to see how successful the first season is."

While they were lucky to have the second season greenlit ahead of season 1's premiere, Winderbaum referenced a comedy bit from Invincible season 2 episode 7's Comic-Con scene.

For the uninitiated, it was the scene where Mark Grayson talks to the Seance Dog creator about why animation is complicated and how long it usually takes to make one episode.

What X-Men '97 Season 2 Could Be About

The X-Men have been scattered across time by the end of X-Men '97 season 1.

Rogue, Nightcrawler, Professor X, Magneto, and the Beast ended up in the past, in 3000 B.C. Egypt, while Jean Grey and Scott Summers landed in The Future aka 3960 A.D.

Rogue and the others 'accidentally saved' En Sabah Nur, also known as the ancient mutant warrior who will eventually be known as the ruthless Apocalypse going against the team of mutants.

On the other hand, Jean and Scott are once more haunted by their unresolved past when they meet the younger version of their son, Nathan, residing with Mother Askani and the Clan Askani.

X-Men '97 season 2 might pick up where these events left off. However, do take this prediction with a grain of salt, as more details about the sequel's plot will likely be revealed leading up to its release.
