X-Men '97 director Emi-Emmett Yonemura recently gave special praise to the new showrunner who took over the reins for season 3.
Before the series premiered last March, Marvel Studios notably fired Beau DeMayo as the showrunner. During that time, the reason behind the writer's exit from the project was unknown.
Marvel eventually tapped What If...? writer Matthew Chauncey to take over the series and serve as the new showrunner starting with season 3. Production is still ongoing for season 2, which will retain some of DeMayo's writing.
New X-Men '97 Showrunner Matthew Chauncey Called a 'Genius' by Director
In a recent interview, Yonemura opened up about Chauncey's hiring as the new showrunner of X-Men '97 season 3.
They praised the writer for being a "genius" and assured that the series is still in good hands with his hiring.
"Oh, he's lovely. I absolutely love working with him. He hasn't even been on super long, and he's already a super sweet, incredibly talented writer, so we're already having a blast over here, and I'm really excited for fans to kind of see what he helps bring to the table because it's amazing, he's a genius," the director said.
This could be an encouraging sign for fans who might be concerned with Chauncey's hiring in the project and whether his quality of work will live up to the level of DeMayo in the first season.
Amidst the major behind-the-scenes changes, there is still a lot of hype for the show's upcoming season and fans are still hoping that the quality will remain consistent as it continues to go on for many more years.
Another good argument that is going for Chauncey's hiring is his Marvel experience and he has a resume that proves that he can do well in writing for the franchise.
For now, let's wait and see what else they have in store for the upcoming seasons as production is still ongoing for season 2.
