A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms Season 1 has finally come to a poignant end, hinting that Dunk (Peter Claffey) and Egg (Dexter Sol Ansell) still have adventures ahead. With the knight and his squire’s journey seemingly far from over, will there be a Season 2?
The Game of Thrones prequel, which is being hailed as one of the franchise’s best, faithfully adapts George R.R. Martin’s novella, The Hedge Knight, in its entirety. But now that Season 1 has concluded, what’s next for Dunk and Egg?
Is A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms Renewed for Season 2?

Yes! HBO renewed A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms for Season 2 in November 2025, even before the first season premiered.
In fact, in January 2026, showrunner Ira Parker revealed that the new season is already in the works.
"We’ve been shooting [season 2] every day for the last two weeks," he told Esquire. "We'll see how the audience responds and we'll go from there, but I love these characters and I love these stories so much."
The renewal comes as no surprise. Warner Bros. Discovery reported that the first episode ranked among HBO Max’s top three series premieres of all time, and the show has received strong critical acclaim.
It boasts a 93% critics rating on Rotten Tomatoes and has drawn approximately 13 million viewers per episode, according to Variety, making it the streamer’s biggest debut series.
What Will A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms Season 2 Be About?

Warning: Major spoilers ahead.
George R.R. Martin’s A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms series is composed of three novellas: The Hedge Knight, The Sworn Sword, and The Mystery Knight.
The first season, which adapted The Hedge Knight, concluded by showing the fallout after the death of Baelor Targaryen (Bertie Carvel).
Everyone left Ashford Meadow following the funeral, with Dunk saying his goodbyes to Lyonel Baratheon (Daniel Ings) and Raymun Fossoway (Shaun Thomas) after turning down Lyonel’s offer to join him in Storm’s End.
Of course, Dunk didn’t say goodbye to Egg. The young prince once again joined Dunk as he traveled across Westeros, with Dorne set to be their next destination. This is where A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms Season 2 will begin.
Season 2 will be based on The Sworn Sword. The books feature self-contained stories set across different regions of Westeros, all centered on Dunk and Egg. It takes place in 211 AC, about a year and a half after the events of the first season.
Here, Dunk and Egg will serve a knight named Ser Eustace Osgrey at the stronghold Standfast in the Reach. However, with a severe drought affecting the region, a rift arises between Osgrey and his rival, Lady Rohanne Webber, which Dunk will need to resolve.
Who’s in the cast of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms Season 2?

Of course, Peter Claffey and Dexter Sol Ansell are expected to return in A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms Season 2 to reprise their roles as Dunk and Egg.
However, aside from the two, the new season may feature an entirely new cast. According to the books, no one from the first novella returns in the continuation of the story aside from the protagonists.
So, despite the possibility that Aerion Targaryen (Finn Bennett) might seek revenge against Dunk after being defeated and humiliated in the Trial of Seven, he does not appear in the second book.
That said, it’s ultimately up to showrunner Ira Parker whether he will introduce major twists and bring back some Season 1 characters, such as Raymun and Maekar (Sam Spruell).
A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms Season 2 is expected to premiere on HBO in 2027.
