The long-awaited film adaptation of Wicked has been a massive box-office success throughout the holiday season so far. Fortunately, fans only need to wait a year for Part Two, and it looks like it will also have a new title.
The second part next year will tackle Act Two of the musical and continue the cliffhanger from the end of the first film which saw Elphaba being called the "Wicked Witch" in Emerald City while she fled into the Western Sky.
What is the New Title for Wicked: Part Two?
It was recently announced that Wicked: Part Two has been retitled to Wicked: For Good.
The highly-anticipated second part will be released in theaters on November 21, 2025.
Since the sequel was filmed back-to-back with the first movie, you can expect the same cast (led by Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande) and crew involved when we see the continuation next year.
Considering the massive success of the first film right now, there is no doubt that it will be one of the most highly-anticipated movies next year and the demand could be even higher.
The first film is also getting a strong Oscar buzz right now as it is heavily predicted to be nominated for Best Picture and other categories including acting nods for Erivo and Grande.
What Does "For Good" in the Title Mean?
If you're already familiar with the Broadway musical, chances are you immediately understood the reference when "For Good" was announced as the new title for the second film.
However, for those who are not familiar with it, "For Good" is a song that Elphaba and Glinda perform during the second act. It is also one of the highly-anticipated musical numbers in Part Two next year as it is a pivotal moment in the development of their friendship.
The title is simply just a nod to the signature song in the second half of the musical and it is a hint of where the story will go in the end.
Nevertheless, a lot of fans are already looking forward to seeing how the "For Good" musical number will play out on the screen and whether it will also be an effective emotional payoff in the film adaptation.
