With the release of For Good, some fans are wondering whether there are plans to do Wicked: Part 3, despite the entire source material already being covered in the two-part films.
The second film explores Act Two of the hit Broadway musical and brings the entire saga of Elphaba and Glinda's story into an epic and emotional conclusion. However, with the massive success of the two-part film adaptations, there are questions about whether they will consider the idea of making a third movie and turning the musical into a cinematic franchise.
Will There Be a Wicked: Part 3 After the Release of For Good?
Speaking with Variety, director Jon M. Chu was asked whether there are plans to do a third Wicked movie following the massive success of the first film and the impending success of For Good.
While he acknowledged that there are "a lot of ideas flying around right now," he shot down the possibility that it will happen anytime soon. "We will see. Let’s enjoy this ride first," he noted.
Meanwhile, Ariana Grande gave an ambiguous response when she was asked in a recent Q&A discussion about the idea of doing another movie. "If we have learned anything from Cher, we can count on there always being another farewell tour. So I do not think anyone is going anywhere," she said.
Bowen Yang shut down the possibility when he got asked about a third movie. "I think we leave it here." However, he joked about a spinoff idea surrounding his character: "I am going to pitch a Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead story with my and Bronwyn James’ characters, Pfannee and ShenShen."
For now, there are no official plans to do a third Wicked movie, since the entire saga was already covered in the two films. However, if For Good ends up being a much bigger success than the first, they might explore the ideas on how they could continue the epic saga in a potential next installment.

Wicked: For Good will serve as the epic, electrifying, emotional conclusion to the film adaptation of the hit Broadway musical.
According to the official synopsis: "Elphaba, now demonized as The Wicked Witch of the West, lives in exile, hidden within the Ozian forest while continuing her fight for the freedom of Oz’s silenced Animals and desperately trying to expose the truth she knows about The Wizard."
"Glinda, meanwhile, has become the glamorous symbol of Goodness for all of Oz, living at the palace in Emerald City and reveling in the perks of fame and popularity. Under the instruction of Madame Morrible, Glinda is deployed to serve as an effervescent comfort to Oz, reassuring the masses that all is well under the rule of The Wizard."
"As an angry mob rises against the Wicked Witch, Glinda and Elphaba will need to come together one final time. With their singular friendship now the fulcrum of their futures, they will need to truly see each other, with honesty and empathy, if they are to change themselves, and all of Oz, for good."
The cast includes Cynthia Erivo, Ariana Grande, Jonathan Bailey, Ethan Slater, Bowen Yang, Marissa Bode, Michelle Yeoh, and Jeff Goldblum. The film is set to release in theaters this November 21.
