The creators of South Park recently explained why they are continuing to poke fun at President Donald Trump in the current season.

Since the season premiere episode, the hit animated series has been relentlessly poking fun at the US President and key officials in his administration, prompting backlash from the White House. However, the polarizing reception did not stop them from skewering Trump nonstop, turning him into a recurring character this season.

Speaking recently with The New York Times, South Park creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone addressed South Park's ongoing skewering of Trump in its current season.

While they had no intention to be political, they explained that he has become part of pop culture, and it's unavoidable to ignore him at this point.

"It’s not that we got all political. It’s that politics became pop culture," Parker said, adding that they had conversations about whether they should poke fun at him. However, "there’s no getting away from [MAGA]."

Parker also added, "It’s like the government is just in your face everywhere you look. Whether it’s the actual government or whether it is all the podcasters and the TikToks and the YouTubes and all of that, and it’s just all political and political because it’s more than political. It’s pop culture."

Stone explained that the series has always sought out "new taboos" and "Trey and I are attracted to that like flies to honey. Oh, that’s where the taboo is? Over there? Ok, then we’re over there."

Parker noted that "we’re just very down-the-middle guys" and "Any extremists of any kind we make fun of. We did it for years with the woke thing. That was hilarious to us. And this is hilarious to us."

For fans who were concerned that their parent company, Paramount/Skydance, would interfere with the show's creative direction, Stone assured, "Any extremists of any kind we make fun of. We did it for years with the woke thing. That was hilarious to us. And this is hilarious to us."

Parker also promised that the show "will be different" next year. "If there’s one thing we know, it is that our show will be a lot longer than [Trump’s administration]. So, we just got to do this for now," he said.
