Holly Wheeler is usually cast aside for Mike and Nancy in the series, but for once, she was put in the spotlight in the fifth season for an unknown reason. The reason is that Vecna is targeting her as one of his next victims.

What first began as Holly's imaginary friend on the playground, whom she called Mr. WhatsIt or Henry, turned out to be something darker than the Wheeler parents could ever imagine.

Vecna's Demogorgon invaded the Wheeler home to reach and abduct Holly into Henry's abode in the Upside Down, but the question remains, why of all kids did it have to be Holly?

If you rewatch Holly's scenes, she is often seen alone, unsupervised, or worse, witnessing her parents fight at home. Who could be a better victim to take amid the chaos?

In Henry Creel's mansion, he showered Holly with what she had never had in her own home (much like the other mother did for Coraline): attention and gifts she never thought she could own, from her own stereo to the new, pretty dresses.

But what's wrong with this picture? We've never seen Vecna terrorize only kids. So did something change in the final season?

Why Did Vecna's Targeted Victims "Change" in Season 5 Part 1?

Remember when Vecna targeted the likes of Chrissy Cunningham, Fred Benson, Patrick McKinney, and Max Mayfield? These victims may not have been children, but they all shared common things: traumatized, scared, and weak-willed.

As Vecna's speech said in the final moments of Stranger Things season 5 episode 4 titled Sorcerer, he started with Will Byers since kids are easier to manipulate and control, considering the lengths he was able to go with using Will as one of his spies.

One other thing: Vecna's main goal is to refashion the world we live in (not just the Upside Down). To do that, he needs 12 children, which he would deem as the "perfect vessels" that he himself could easily shape and control.

While Will happens to be one of them, he surprisingly took control of the powers that Vecna allowed him access to in the end. Let's just say, the big bad doesn't know that this Byers is far from the boy who went missing in season 1.
