Deadpool and Wolverine mark a new beginning in the Marvel Cinematic Universe as the threequel will be the first R-rated film in the franchise. According to Ryan Reynolds, Deadpool and Wolverine's rated R action is necessary. Here's why.

The crossover teamwork between Ryan Reynolds' Merc with the Mouth and Hugh Jackman's Logan will soon be commemorated for its success: not only in officially having the X-Men hop into the MCU but in the franchise's victory of maintaining Deadpool's R-rated flicks into the timeline.

"I hope this doesn't sound condescending, I'm really proud of them for doing this," Ryan Reynolds previously said in an interview with Fandango, adding that it's a "huge step" in keeping their promise to "different people they have been entertaining for forever."

"I was surprised though, that they let us go as hard R, but very grateful," Reynolds shared.

Despite the surprise, the Deadpool star further explained that "there's no other way to do it" in the portrayal of the crude-mouthed Wade Wilson on the big screen.

Considering that a lot is riding on the upcoming threequel this week, the Merc with the Mouth can't afford to suddenly go PG.

According to director Shawn Levy, the R-rating was "clear from the get-go," and to stay "truthful to the tone", "We're not softening the edges, we're going to be audacious and funny and edgy."

Besides, the R-rating is likely the least of the fans' problems. Deadpool and Wolverine are entering the Multiverse and have no time to waste their potential in trying to fix it alongside the Time Variance Authority (TVA).

It won't do the characters justice to bring them back in theatres if they don't go all out on their battle sequences and get their story straight.

As Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige reiterated, this threequel is the "most wholesome R-rated film anybody can ever see."
