Nothing comes easy in Hollywood when it comes to making dreams come true, and that includes the first Deadpool movie that started Reynolds' franchise.

"No part of me was thinking when Deadpool was finally greenlit that this would be a success," according to the Free Guy star in a recent interview with The New York Times.

He added that he even "let go of getting paid to do the movie" just so they could put it back on the screen.

Since the filmmakers wouldn't let his co-writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick on set, "I took the little salary I had left and paid them to be on set with me so we could form a de facto writers room."

The first Deadpool grossed over $780 million worldwide out of a limited budget of $58 million, and had Reynolds not taken the leap for the Merc, where would the sequel and threequel be now?

He also emphasized that one of the great enemies of creativity is too much time and money, which he explained, "It was a lesson in a couple of senses," and that the first Deadpool movie "had neither time nor money."

To the actor, he didn't want more money than what was necessary in making Deadpool come to fruition, "We wanted just enough money to make what we set out to make, but also find ways to creatively pivot."

If anything, he learned from constraints on what it takes to successfully make the film's debut, "The more constraints you place on a creative process, the more you think outside of the box."
