Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige opened up about the R-rated tone of Deadpool and Wolverine and how it is still "wholesome" despite the graphic violence.

Fans have been looking forward to Deadpool and Wolverine since it is the first R-rated MCU film and the trailers promised that it will retain the same level of violence and crude humor as the first two films.

Now that Marvel Studios is venturing into the R-rated territory, some are wondering whether this will lead to more R-rated MCU movies or if it's only a special case for Deadpool and Wolverine.

Deadpool and Wolverine is the 'Most Wholesome R-Rated Film,' Kevin Feige Says

In a recent interview, Feige was asked whether the making of Deadpool and Wolverine will lead to more R-rated MCU movies in the future.

While he didn't confirm any plans for more R-rated projects, he emphasized that it was necessary for Deadpool and Wolverine as he wanted them to follow the tone of the first two films.

"I think we’ve been edgy in the past, but my favorite thing is that we span all types of genres and tones," the Marvel Studios president said.

"I think it gets a lot of attention that this is our first R-rated movie, but it is the third R-rated Deadpool movie, so we wanted to stay true to what Ryan [Reynolds] has built over those last couple of movies and we weren’t going to undo that."

Despite the film's R-rated tone, Feige still considered Deadpool and Wolverine to be "wholesome" since it is still celebrating the value of friendship and family.

"I will say — Hugh [Jackman] and Ryan have talked about this — and I think people can tell from the trailer and from the press tour so far, yes, it’s R-rated, yes there’s some language and blood, but the film is incredibly emotional," he added.

"I keep calling it the most wholesome R-rated film that anybody can ever see. It really is a celebration of friendship and family and of found family. I don’t want to overdo it, but for all the R-rated raunchiness that gets attention, when people see the movie, it’s going to be about how heartfelt it is — in my opinion, much more than the first two Deadpool films. That’s what I’m really excited about, once people get past the ‘F’ words and the R-rating, to see how sweet it is."

While it is exciting to see the MCU tackle the R-rated territory, it looks like Deadpool and Wolverine will still have the franchise's familiar elements and it just so happens that the action is more violent and the main characters are swearing.

Whether its R-rated tone is "wholesome" or not, fans are looking forward to seeing how Marvel Studios will tackle this type of style and, hopefully, the final cut lives up to the hype of its promise.

Deadpool and Wolverine is set to arrive in theaters this July 26.
