Born on March 14, 1986, Jamie Bell comes from a family of dancers and got his first taste of performing when he accompanied his sister to her ballet lessons.

Who would have thought this would lead to his breakthrough role as Billy Elliot in 1999? Chosen from over 2,000 boys for the part, he received widespread acclaim and became the youngest-ever winner of the BAFTA Award for Best Actor at just 14 years old.

He also won the London Film Critics' Circle Award for British Newcomer of the Year, the British Independent Film Award for Best Newcomer, and the Evening Standard British Film Award for Most Promising Newcomer.

From there, Bell went on to star in major projects, gaining recognition for his roles as Tintin in The Adventures of Tintin, Bernie Taupin in the Elton John biopic Rocketman, and Ben Grimm / The Thing in the 2015 Marvel film Fantastic Four.

His latest project includes the critically acclaimed film All of Us Strangers, where he plays the father of the protagonist, Adam (Andrew Scott).

Fans will next see Jamie Bell take on the role of Duke Shelby, leading the yet-to-be-titled Peaky Blinders series alongside Stranger Things star Charlie Heaton.

They will be joined by Jessica Brown Findlay, Lashana Lynch, and Lucy Karczewski.

The new series will take place 10 years after the events of the recently released film Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man, following the next generation of the Shelby family in the 1950s.

“In this new era of Peaky Blinders, a decade after World War II, the race to rebuild Birmingham becomes a brutal contest of mythical dimensions,” the logline reads. “This is a city of unprecedented opportunity and jeopardy. At its blood-soaked heart is Duke Shelby: older, wiser, more ambitious, and most certainly more dangerous.”

The show is currently filming in Birmingham and will consist of two six-episode seasons. It is set to be released on Netflix and the BBC.

“I am thrilled that we are announcing a new era of Peaky Blinders, moving the story to post-war Birmingham in the early ’50s,” creator and writer Steven Knight said (via Variety). “We are incredibly fortunate to have Jamie Bell taking the role of Tommy Shelby’s oldest son, Duke, and to have the incredible Charlie Heaton also leading the cast. There are more exciting cast announcements to come, and Peaky is on the road again.”

So far, there is no word on when the new Peaky Blinders series will be released.
