- Quick Answer: Edric is a spice-mutated Spacing Guild Navigator using prescience to shield a secret conspiracy aimed at overthrowing Emperor Paul Atreides in Dune 3.
Warner Bros. and Legendary have released new footage from Dune: Part Three, introducing a terrifying new character named Edric.
The studios are giving viewers a new look at the highly anticipated movie to commemorate the opening of ticket sales for IMAX and other premium large-format screenings.
Making his first appearance in the franchise, Edric delivers an ominous warning that “the end” is coming. So, who is he, and what role will he play in Dune: Part Three?
Who Is Edric in Dune: Part Three?

In Frank Herbert’s novel Dune Messiah, on which Dune: Part Three is based, Edric is a Spacing Guild Navigator who lives in a floating tank filled with orange spice gas.
As part of the plan to overthrow Paul Atreides (Timothée Chalamet), Edric joins a secret group plotting the coup and proves to be a valuable asset thanks to his prescient abilities, which are enhanced by his consumption of large amounts of spice.
Edric can block Paul from seeing the coup attempt, allowing him and his allies to carry out their plans in secret.
Guild Navigators are able to see possible futures and recognize Paul as a major threat to the galaxy. As a result, Edric agrees to take part in the plot to eliminate him.
Edric is also responsible for presenting Paul with Hayt (Jason Momoa), a ghola created in the likeness of Duncan Idaho.
So, while Edric isn’t featured prominently in the promotional materials for Dune: Part Three, it looks like he could have a major role to play in the final installment of the trilogy.
What Is Dune: Part Three About?

Dune: Part Three will take viewers back to Arrakis 12 years after the events of the second movie, with Paul now installed as the emperor of most of the known universe.
However, with a death toll of 61 billion people, Paul is now grappling with the number of lives lost during the Fremen Jihad he started. But his visions show that this is still far from the worst outcome for humanity.
Paul is now married to Princess Irulan (Florence Pugh) but doesn’t want to have children. As a result, Irulan secretly slips contraceptives into Chani’s (Zendaya) food at the orders of the Bene Gesserit.
But Chani switches to a traditional Fremen fertility diet that Irulan cannot tamper with, allowing her to become pregnant. However, years of taking contraceptives have weakened her reproductive system, causing her to die after giving birth to her and Paul’s twins.
The Bene Gesserit and the Spacing Guild plan to take down Paul, along with the powerful civilization known as the Tleilaxu, which gifts Paul Hayt, a ghola created in the likeness of his former mentor, Duncan Idaho.
However, Hayt will be used to undermine Paul’s political position while also placing an enemy close to him.
Speaking about the third movie at Deadline’s Contenders London event, director Denis Villeneuve revealed that his adaptation would be different this time.
“In order to save his friends, [Paul] has to start a war,” he said.
However, he promised to remain “faithful to Frank Herbert’s vision about the idea of a cautionary tale, about being careful with charismatic figures, and the danger of blending religion and politics.”
Dune: Part Three is scheduled for a theatrical and IMAX release on December 18, 2026.
