What Enticed the Batman Star to Join Dune: Part Three?
While speaking with Variety, Pattinson recounts that he was a big fan of Denis Villeneuve, even before the opportunity to be cast in it came.
"I absolutely adored these movies, saw them multiple times in the theater. I was talking to [Zendaya] on the set of The Drama," he recalled, turning to his co-star, Zendaya, "I was like, 'How do I get in one of those Dune movies?' It was a very unexpected call a few months later."
Pattinson graced the screens by sporting a bleached-blond buzz cut and pale, translucent-looking skin that oozes eerie energy.
The Mickey 17 actor went on to add how practically 'everybody wants to work with Denis', who is evidently a master of his craft: "They're such a towering achievement by the cast. And when you see the scope and scale and ambition of these movies, like on set, you get why they feel like this on the screen. It's just extraordinary."
Who is Robert Pattinson Playing in Dune 3? Introducing the Conspirator
Scytale, who is a highly skilled Face Dancer, a shapeshifting humanoid from the Bene Tleilax in Frank Herbert's original Dune novels, is the key villain in Dune: Part Three. While merely two scenes reflected who Pattinson's character is in the Dune universe, he is described to be a master manipulator, who leads a conspiracy involving the Bene Gesserit and Spacing Guild, sworn to overthrow Emperor Paul Atreides (played by Timothée Chalamet).
"You can't really tell whose side he's on. That's kind of what makes him quite interesting," Pattinson told the outlet, adding that he was eager to play a character that's quite 'unusual' in the book.
"I wouldn't say he's a conventional bad guy, as such. He might even be a good guy, who knows?" Pattinson teased, "I will also find out when I see the movie. It's an extremely fun character to play, and the look of it is quite extraordinary."
No spoilers for this one, but it would be interesting to see how the Dune film unfolds the war between the primary conspirator and its Emperor on the big screens...
