Gallatin dies in The Witcher Season 3. Gallatin was an elf who led an army of guerilla Scoia’tael fighting on behalf of Nilfgaard. He was unafraid to speak his truth, which led him in conflict with the ruler of the elves, Francesca.

It was revealed in Episode 2 that Gallatin and Cahir were old friends. Gallatin asks for Cahir’s help in overthrowing Francesca because he doesn’t believe in her cause.

They continue to diss each other in a joking manner, which shows that they’ve known each other for quite some time. However, their bromance doesn’t last long because Cahir is forced to kill his friend.

Cahir kills Gallatin to prove his loyalty to Emperor Emhyr. When Cahir introduces Gallatin to Emhyr, Gallatin tells the emperor that Francesca has been “siphoning off our best fighters and resources” because she’s not fighting to soften the North, but to search for a girl (Ciri).

The emperor realizes that his interests are aligned with Francesca's. When Gallatin leaves, Emhyr tells Cahir that division among the elves would only hurt their cause on both fronts.

The emperor sees Gallatin as a problem, which is why he decides to get rid of him. So, Emhyr tells Cahir to prove that he’s ready to come home.

To prove himself to Emhyr, Cahir kills Gallatin. He grieves and apologizes about things having to be that way. Cahir then looks at the mirror and sees himself full of regret, then breaks the mirror.

They discourage Geralt from pursuing him because the mage is “very dangerous.” Instead, they encourage Geralt to just find another girl with ashen hair and green eyes and have her killed so that the world would think the real Ciri is dead.

Geralt refuses and leaves. Later on, Rience visits Codringher and Fenn and asks them what Geralt’s plans are. The duo doesn’t say anything, and Rience threatens to kill their cat.

Fenn begs him not to, and the next thing we see is Rience leaving a house on fire, notably bringing the cat with him.

Later on, Geralt receives condolences, which confirms that Codringher and Fenn did indeed die in the fire.

The Professor

The first death in the season is The Professor's. In fact, the opening scene of The Witcher Season 3 is Geralt’s fight with The Professor and his men.

In The Witcher books, The Professor/Ralf Blunden was a well-known murderer who worked with Heimo Kantor and Little Yaxa.

All three were said to be handy with a sword and better than the Michelets (the mercenary brothers that Geralt killed in the Temple of Melitele in Season 2).

In Time of Contempt, The Professor and his companions were tracking down Yennefer and Ciri. They were looking for a woman who was “black-haired and exceedingly fair” and another who was “younger, fair-haired and green-eyed”.

In The Witcher Season 3, The Professor was hired by Rience to track down Ciri and Geralt, or a girl with “ashen hair and patrician countenance” and a witcher who’s “a mannerless, blanched brute.”

The Professor and his men meet Geralt outside the inn to their demise. Geralt finishes his men off, and the last thing we see in this scene is The Professor’s headless body on the ground.
