Which Marvel Teams in Avengers: Doomsday Will Be Most Useful Against Doctor Doom?

The fight against Doctor Doom (Robert Downey Jr.) will continue in the much-awaited Avengers: Doomsday, and five teams from the Marvel Cinematic Universe are set to face the world eater in a battle like no other.

A recent Disney event in Italy revealed the characters that will be featured in the crossover movie, including the Fantastic Four, the Wakandan warriors, the New Avengers, the Thunderbolts, and the X-Men.

So, which among these groups will be the most useful against the multiverse’s latest villain?

The Thunderbolts

A ragtag team of misfits and anti-heroes, the Thunderbolts is probably the weakest team set to face Doctor Doom. However, everything could change if Sentry (Lewis Pullman) decides to use his powers again.

It is known that Bob refuses to transform into Henry again, fearing he may lose control and bring Void back.

Sure, Red Guardian (David Harbour), Winter Soldier (Sebastian Stan), Yelena Belova (Florence Pugh), John Walker (Wyatt Russell), and Ghost (Hannah John-Kamen) are all tenacious, but they are mostly powerless when facing Doctor Doom.

The Wakandan Warriors

The Wakandan warriors will be a formidable ally in the fight against Doctor Doom. They aren’t just numerous; they are also expertly trained by T’Challa (Chadwick Boseman) himself.

During the Disney event, it was revealed that Shuri (Letitia Wright) would return alongside Namor (Tenoch Huerta), teasing that their two kingdoms would unite to face the villain in Doomsday after battling each other in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.

So, while many warriors may come to fight, their appearance in Avengers: Infinity War suggests that their abilities alone might not be enough to stop Doctor Doom. Nevertheless, they will still prove invaluable.

The X-Men

The X-Men

More X-Men characters will make their way to the MCU following the blockbuster hit Deadpool & Wolverine, and they will be joining the fight against Doctor Doom in Doomsday.

With the return of the original X-Men actors, the versions of the heroes from the Fox universe are expected to appear in the film.

However, their abilities will depend on the variants that show up, considering that some dead X-Men characters, like Cyclops, will return, and depowered mutants, like Mystique, will also be present.

But knowing Professor X and Magneto, two of the most powerful mutants, are included hints that their broad range of powers could still be useful in countering Doctor Doom.

The Fantastic Four

The Fantastic Four

No team may rival the Fantastic Four when it comes to facing Doctor Doom, but The Fantastic Four: First Steps’ post-credits scene teases an impending “doom” after the antagonist appears with Franklin, the son of Reed Richards / Mister Fantastic (Pedro Pascal) and Sue Storm / Invisible Woman (Vanessa Kirby).

There are theories that Doctor Doom may use Franklin the same way he used the Molecule Man in Marvel Comics to create and maintain Battleworld. Considering that Franklin is one of the most overpowered characters in Marvel, Doctor Doom will surely be difficult to defeat.

Anyhow, with the Invisible Woman’s incredible abilities, Mister Fantastic’s genius intellect, Johnny Storm’s / Human Torch’s (Joseph Quinn) near-limitless firepower, and Ben Grimm’s / The Thing’s immense strength, they will undoubtedly pose a major threat to Doctor Doom.

The New Avengers

The New Avengers

Of course, the new Avengers will be at the top of the list and for good reason. If what the Disney event revealed is true, their lineup includes two gods, Thor (Chris Hemsworth) and Loki (Tom Hiddleston); the Ten Rings bearer Shang-Chi (Simu Liu); the shrinking hero Ant-Man (Paul Rudd); and the new Captain America alongside his new partner, Falcon (Danny Ramirez). Together, they possess immense power capable of bringing Doctor Doom down.

Loki now holds the entire multiverse together, Sam Wilson now leads the team, Thor can defeat nearly anyone, Shang-Chi wields mystical power, Ant-Man has access to the Quantum Realm, and Falcon serves as the team’s blunt-force weapon. With all these combined, there’s no way they can’t face Doctor Doom head-on.

Anyhow, as Doctor Doom is set to return in Avengers: Secret Wars, it still suggests he may be strong enough to overcome all five teams—meaning an even bigger fight is on the way.

Avengers: Doomsday is set to be released on December 18, 2026, followed by Aventers: Secret Wars on December 17, 2027.
