Netflix is seemingly gearing up for a Squid Game US spinoff following the conclusion of the original South Korean version after three seasons.
While the streaming giant has yet to officially confirm the American adaptation—despite reports that it’s in development with David Fincher at the helm—no formal announcement has been made.
However, with Cate Blanchett’s surprising cameo as the American Recruiter, here are five theories about what could happen in the Squid Game US spinoff that might change everything.
The Origin of Squid Game May Be Explored in the US Spinoff

Seeing Blanchett’s Recruiter playing ddakji, a traditional Korean game, in Los Angeles suggests that the deadly competition may follow the same format as the original Squid Game.
Since the organization seems to have started in South Korea, the US spinoff might explore how and when it expanded into a global operation.
In Season 1, one VIP called the event “the Korean games,” hinting that there could be other versions worldwide.
It’s also worth noting that the American Recruiter appears to recognize the Front Man (Lee Byung-hun) when they make eye contact.
With that being said, Squid Game is maybe operating globally that may have started with its rich financial tycoon creator and host Oh Il-nam or Player 001 (O Yeong-su).
There May Be Several Main Characters

Seong Gi-hun, or Player 456 (Lee Jung-jae), was the main focus of the original Squid Game.
But making the US version about just one character going through the same thing might not work as well.
Instead, it may feature several main characters. If so, viewers could get an ensemble cast, making it harder to guess who will survive and who won’t.
Player 456’s Daughter May Investigate the Squid Game in Los Angeles

Player 456’s daughter appeared in the Squid Game Season 3 finale, receiving her father’s belongings and prize money from the Front Man.
After seeing the game’s logo and her dad’s bloody uniform, Seong Ga-yeong (Jo A-in), who’s now in Los Angeles, might start investigating the deadly games.
If so, she could continue Gi-hun’s mission to stop Squid Game for good.
Cate Blanchett May Return as the Recruiter in Squid Game US Spinoff

Squid Game creator Hwang Dong-hyuk previously clarified that Cate Blanchett’s appearance in the Squid Game Season 3 finale had nothing to do with the rumored US spinoff.
“It’s not related to that. All I wanted to have was just an impactful ending, and that’s all that was to it,” he told Variety.
In fact, he has yet to hear anything official from Netflix regarding Fincher developing an American version of his brainchild.
But with Blanchett’s commanding presence and undeniable charisma as the Recruiter—leaving a lasting impression on viewers—she would undoubtedly be a strong addition to the spinoff, making it even more appealing.
The Front Man May Stop the Games

The Front Man may have been influenced by Gi-hun’s actions, especially after their time together in Squid Game Season 2.
This could be why he made sure Ga-yeong received her father’s belongings and gave them to her himself.
In his final scene, he looks at the American recruiter with suspicion, hinting that he may be starting questioning the games.
With that in mind, the Front Man could appear in the Squid Game US spinoff to try and stop the organization—completing the mission Gi-hun failed to do so.
