Shadow and Bone Season 2 is officially in the making, and the cast makes sure to keep us in the loop with fun glimpses into the filming process. But what can we expect from Shadow and Bone Season 2? As Shadow and Bone is based on not one, but two YA book series, there might be some confusion there. Here's what we know so far:
New Characters
Earlier in the year, the Shadow and Bone cast introduced four new members who are joining their ranks. Nikolai, Wylan, Tolya, and Tamar, are some of the intriguing new characters we will meet when Shadow and Bone Season 2 comes out.
While the show will probably keep looking a bit different from the books, the addition of these four characters helps us figure out at least some of the plot points we expect to see covered. In the Six of Crows duology,
Wylan is a merchant's son who joins the Crows after becoming estranged from his father. His privileged past sets him apart from the rest of the characters, but Kaz keeps him around as leverage against his father. Wylan's presence, therefore, suggests that the crows will move on to new heists. Will they and Alina cross paths again? This never happens in any book but it did in Season 1, so we have to wait and see!
Darkling's Plans
To discuss the other three new characters and their connection to the plot, we have to talk about the Darkling's evil plans for a moment. In the ending of Shadow and Bone Season 1, we find out that, despite Alina's efforts, the Darkling survived the Fold, and he will now pursue her again.
In the second book of the Grisha Trilogy, the Darkling indeed catches up with Alina and holds her captive for a time. Thankfully, Nikolai, a young privateer and one of our new characters, who is hired by the Darkling to transport him and Alina, eventually decides to support the Sun Summoner instead. Hopefully, the series will do justice to Nikolai's witty personality and to his character arc, as he tries to seriously reform Ravka and becomes a potential love interest for our main character.

Tolya and Tamar are Grisha who work for Nikolai. Eventually, they join the order of holy warriors known as Soldat Sol, who are dedicated to protecting the Sun Summoner. Unlike the books, Alina in the series is part Shu like them, which could make their decision to be devoted to her more interesting and nuanced.
But however many allies Alina gathers around her, the Darkling will try to thwart her and everyone around her, making the stakes higher than ever!
There's a lot of potential in the second season of Shadow and Bone. Any of these plotlines are interesting, and we don't know if Season 2 alone will have time to explore them all - which hopefully means more exciting seasons in the future!
