A lot of great anime TV specials were released in the year 2024, but one of them stood as the highest-rated title from fans who scored and reviewed them on sites such as Letterboxd.

What is the Highest-Rated Anime TV Special of 2024?
Letterboxd's Year in Review 2024 revealed that One Piece Fan Letter is the highest-rated TV special on the site with an average rating of 4.6.
The majority of Letterboxd users rated the special 5 stars which led to its massively high score on the site and its top position in the year-end list.
One Piece Fan Letter is also one of the highest-rated anime titles of 2024 on other websites such as MyAnimeList (9.09) and IMDb (9.3).
While this might come as a surprise for some anime fans, those who have seen One Piece Fan Letter believe that it deserves the spot given how massively beloved the special has been since it aired.
Users in Letterboxd have shared how much the special comforted them as they were going through a tough time in their life at the moment.
"I'm not necessarily scared of dying. I find it comforting and don't want to live to an old age anyway. I don't get freaked out at the thought of death, but I get really mad that I won't get to see what happens next," user Jomari Bashin wrote.
"I’m really saddened by the thought that I might not see the ending of One Piece due to my illness. But I'm really happy I lived in a world where One Piece exists—it's been such an incredible adventure."
Meanwhile, user AfterTheShow wrote in their praise, "Not being hyperbolic at all when I say this might be one of the most flawlessly crafted works of animation and storytelling ever conceived. Ishitani is one of, if not the best animation director working today and it cannot be overstated how valuable her filmography is."
What is One Piece Fan Letter About?
One Piece Fan Letter was produced in celebration of the anime 25th's anniversary. It is based on the novel Straw Hat Stories and directed by Megumi Ishitani.
The logline of the special reads:
Two years after the Summit War in which Straw Hat pirate Luffy lost his brother Ace, the story takes place on the Sabaody Archipelago. The protagonist, a young girl who has a strong admiration for Nami, sets off on a small adventure. This is an ensemble drama that focuses on people who do not “pursue” ONE PIECE, depicting the reunion of the Straw Hat Pirates from their perspective.
The story is not considered to be part of the official canon, but it is a love letter to the One Piece fanbase and a tribute to their long-lasting loyalty to the anime which has produced thousands of episodes at this point.
The special is currently available to stream on Netflix.
