Watch Ryan Reynolds Show Fans How He Gets Ready to Play Detective Pikachu

Detective Pikachu is set to come out next week, and though Avengers: Endgame is still a very solid competitor in the box office, the film continues to push forward with promotion. Just I, Ryan Reynolds shares this fun new video of him trying to teach fans how to turn themselves into Detective Pikachu.

Check it out:

While I never really thought Ryan Reynolds did motion capture work for the movie, I guess it adds a level of authenticity when it comes to Det. Pikachu's facial expressions. Other than that, I think the animators just came up with Pikachu's body movement themselves. After all, he's supposed to be a tiny animal.

Detective Pikachu has a lot riding on the likeability of its title character, but I think what's really going to sell the movie is the promise of live-action Pokemon. While some were a tad unsure about the release of the first trailer, I think a lot of people have warmed up to the look of the movie now, and it seems that Detective Pikachu now has a fighting chance in the box office with Avengers: Endgame.

I mean, of course, Endgame is going to make more money, but at least DP will make a decent profit.

Ace detective Harry Goodman goes mysteriously missing, prompting his 21-year-old son, Tim, to find out what happened. Aiding in the investigation is Harry's former Pokémon partner, wise-cracking, adorable super-sleuth Detective Pikachu. Finding that they are uniquely equipped to work together, as Tim is the only human who can talk with Pikachu, they join forces to unravel the tangled mystery.

Catch Detective Pikachu when it hits theaters May 10.
