While the sequel to Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order has no release date yet, the next game title in the franchise, Star Wars: Squadrons, is set to launch this October. With a lot of people anxious to see how the game is going to turn out, BattlefrontUpdates from Youtube has decided to give us some gameplay footage as well as his first impressions.
Check it out:
If you've played Star Wars Battlefront II, you'll know that that game already has its own Starfighter mode, but Squadrons apparently has a way more complicated system compared to BF. While Battlefront is pretty straightforward with each ship's abilities and power-ups, Squadrons forces players to try and be more efficient when it comes to managing their ship's energy, whether it be for shields or engines.
I have to say, it's a bit disorienting for me to have the entire game take place in a cockpit, it probably adds a lot to the immersion. I guess I just prefer getting to see my whole ship when I play. Then again, Squadrons doesn't seem to have too much emphasis on collisions, seeing that you can basically fly your ship into some tight corners without crashing—something Battlefront II won't allow.
As someone who loves pilots in Star Wars, I'm looking forward to checking out Squadrons. While it's a bummer for anyone who loves the ground assault and lightsabers, I think EA and Motive know this title is for a specific branch of fans. Hopefully, they manage to deliver.
Catch Star Wars: Squadrons when it comes out Oct. 2 for PC, Xbox One, and PS4.
