It looks like Marvel's WandaVision Disney+ series is going to be very different from what fans are used to seeing in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
During an interview with IGN at this year's D23 Expo last weekend, Marvel's Vision actor Paul Bettany described the upcoming Disney+ series as the "oddest of all the Marvel endeavors" so far, and now we might know why.
Scarlet Witch star Elizabeth Olsen also spoke with IGN during the Expo, and the actress seemed to back up reports that the series could very well be the MCU's first sitcom.
"There are plenty of comic books that support why both of these characters should be in a sitcom," the actress told the news outlet.
A sitcom is definitely an interesting direction that Marvel would want to take with WandaVision. It would tie together with the series' 50's look in its poster. It also fits with the reports saying that Kathryn Hall is set to play a "nosy neighbor" on the show, something commonly seen in the situational comedy format. There's also the fact that the series cast Randal Park and Kath Dennings, veterans in the sitcom genre. Park starred in ABC's sitcom series Fresh Off the Boat while Kat Dennings appeared in the popular CBS sitcom 2 Broke Girls.
While it might break away from Wanda and Vision's superhero background, the sitcom format might mesh well with an alternate reality universe where Scarlet Witch lives with Vision in the 1950s not knowing that this world was something that she herself created with the power of the Mind Stone.
WandaVision is set to stream on Disney+ during the spring of 2021.
