A lot of actors have taken on the role of Superman over the decades, beginning with Kirk Alyn in the 1948 TV series and most recently David Corenswet headlining James Gunn’s DC reboot. With Tom Welling, best known for playing Clark Kent in Smallville, now sharing photos of Superman actors together, could he, Corenswet, and Henry Cavill potentially unite as Superman variants in a single project?
Will Tom Welling, Henry Cavill, and David Corenswet Work Together in One Superman Project?
Welling, who played Superman/Clark Kent for a decade in Smallville, shared several photos created by @esheffects featuring other Superman actors such as Cavill, Corenswet, Tyler Hoechlin, and the late Christopher Reeve.
While it’s now impossible for them to work with Reeve following his death in 2004 (unless CGI is used), he previously worked with Welling when he appeared as guest-star Dr. Virgil Swann during Smallville’s second and third seasons.
Welling also reprised his role as Clark Kent in the Arrowverse’s Crisis on Infinite Earths crossover, where he crossed paths with Hoechlin’s Superman from Earth-38.
Unfortunately, Welling has not yet worked with Cavill’s or Corenswet’s versions of the Man of Steel. After Cavill stepped away from DC’s Superman, it remains to be seen whether he will return to reprise his role as Kal-El.
However, a comeback isn’t impossible, especially since studio figures, including Gunn, have kept the door open for his return. With that in mind, it’s not far-fetched to imagine them eventually working together in one Superman project.
How Can Tom Welling and Other Superman Actors Appear in One Project?
DC has already featured multiple live-action versions of the same character together in one project.
Crisis on Infinite Earths famously brought together Hoechlin, Brandon Routh, and Welling as different versions of Superman, while the 2023 movie The Flash used a multiverse sequence to make cameos and alternate Supermen appear together.
With that being said, a Crisis-style crossover event could easily feature Cavill, Welling, and Corenswet together – positioning Cavill as the seasoned DCEU veteran, Welling as the legacy mentor, and Corenswet as the torch-bearer for the new era.
This could also happen through a time-travel or legacy-driven story where one Superman is pulled from the past or future and brought into Corenswet’s present timeline.
Lastly, similar to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the DC Extended Universe could use multiversal variants or powerful beings like Brainiac or Doctor Manhattan to create counterfeit Supermen or warp realities.
Through any of these approaches, the photos Welling shared could become a reality, potentially bringing all three actors together on the small or big screen as different Superman variants.
