Fans have been speculating that Brainiac might be the main villain for the highly anticipated Superman sequel, Man of Tomorrow. But is he really the antagonist that the Man of Steel will face next?
Following the major success of Superman last summer, DC Studios announced it is moving forward with a follow-up film set for release in theaters in 2027. This time around, Superman and Lex Luthor will have a temporary alliance to fight against a new villain. Fans are wondering whether Brainiac is the foe the unlikely pair will face in the upcoming film.
Is Brainiac the Villain of DC's Man of Tomorrow?

TheWrap confirmed that Brainiac is indeed going to be the main villain that Superman and Lex Luthor will face in DC Studios' Man of Tomorrow movie.
In case you're not familiar with the character, Brainiac is a notorious DC villain known for being a superintelligent android who is obsessed with collecting all knowledge in the known universe. He would usually shrink the cities/planets that he acquired knowledge from and preserve them in his spaceship.
He made his debut in the comics in Action Comics #242, published in 1958, making him one of the long-running villains in the Superman lore.
While the character has been depicted in animated and live-action TV shows before, this would be the first time that he would make an appearance on the big screen. There have been previous Superman film projects that attempted to include Brainiac, but none of them came to fruition.
No casting has been made yet for the coveted role, but fans will likely hear details about who will play the character in the coming months.
What to Expect in Man of Tomorrow
Man of Tomorrow will serve as the fourth feature film in the DCU franchise, following Superman, Supergirl, and Clayface. It is slated for release in theaters on July 9, 2027.
David Corenswet and Nicholas Hoult are confirmed to reprise their respective roles of Superman/Clark Kent and Lex Luthor. Just like the first movie, James Gunn is also serving as the director and writer of the project.
Other cast members who are expected to return in the film are Frank Grillo (Rick Flag, Sr.), Rachel Brosnahan (Lois Lane), and Isabela Merced (Hawkgirl). It won't be surprising if more Superman cast members will be confirmed to reprise their roles in the coming months.
While most of the plot details are under wraps, Gunn teased that the film "is a story about Lex Luthor and Superman having to work together to a certain degree against a much, much bigger threat."
