There is little doubt that Henry Cavill truly embraced his role as Geralt of Rivia in The Witcher. As it turns out, the Justice League star even went as far as helping choreograph the Netflix show's most iconic fight scene from the first season.
The Witcher Stunt Coordinator Confirms Henry Cavill's Contribution in Season 1's Blaviken Fight Scene
In the first season of The Witcher, Geralt of Rivia went up against several men before facing off against the equally tough Renfri in Blaviken. The epic fight scene continues to be a stand out in the series and Henry Cavill was greatly involved in that sequence.
The Witcher stunt coordinator Wolfgang Stegemann recently spoke to GamesRadar and he admitted that the reason why he agreed to return for the third season was the birth of the Butcher of Blaviken (Geralt's new moniker after his wild fight against the thugs).
"I had such a great experience with Season 1 with the Blaviken fight and the Renfri fight," Stegemann said.
"I got called back and I love The Witcher, and for me immediately I was, like, thumbs up, 'Yes, we would love to do that,'" he admitted.
As much as he loved that sequence, Stegemann confessed that he wasn't aware of the scene's popularity. He then revealed that Henry Cavill was truly involved in the entire sequence.
"Henry Cavill had a strong input on designing the Blaviken fight," Stegemann said.
"He designed it with me together, he was my second fight coordinator and camera designer," he revealed.
"When we shot it, we had another version which was like a cut version or a safety one, but we decided we do it as a one-take," Stegemann added.
"Henry was fighting, he had no stunt double, and once we had the take, we were like, 'Well we got something cool,' but we never expected this with the audience, we’re very honored," he concluded.
We're loving this new piece of information since it once again confirms Cavill's commitment to the show. Needless to say, we can't wait to see him one last time in The Witcher Season 3.
The first volume of The Witcher Season 3 will premiere on Netflix on June 28, 2023.
The second set of episodes will then begin streaming on July 27, 2023.
