It may have taken several years but The New Mutants has finally premiered in theaters this week despite concerns over COVID-19. Interestingly, the X-Men spin-off did pretty well although there were only a few movie theaters that were open during the weekend. A new report confirms that the Josh Boone flick has raked in $7 million on its opening weekend.
Comicbook.com reports that The New Mutants manage to earn $7 million from its opening day on Thursday until Saturday. This makes the 20th Century Studios film the biggest earning film since cinemas were closed down in March due to COVID-19.
So what could this mean for the upcoming movies that are set for theatrical release? There are speculations that Tenet might be able to do better than The New Mutants considering that it will open in the UK as well as the US. If so, this could be good news for the future of cinema.
The synopsis for The New Mutants reads as follows:
The New Mutants is currently screening in theaters across the country. Tenet will hit theaters on September 4.
