One of the most important key storylines behind Ellie’s character in Naughty Dog’s Last of Us video game is that she never met her mother. Ellie only managed to somewhat meet her mother halfway through a letter she had written to her, and eventually, from Marlene, the leader of the Fireflies organization, who was a close friend of her mother.
In the latest trailer for HBO’s The Last of Us TV Series adaptation, we not only see the game-accurate scenes such as Joel’s (Pedro Pascual) “You have no idea what loss is” line to Ellie (Bella Ramsey) along with Ellie and her friend Riley savoring their moments in a photo booth, we also get a glimpse of Ellie’s game voice actor, Ashley Johnson, carrying a baby at 1:33 time stamp of the trailer. It is safe to assume that the clip means we’ll be seeing Ashley Johnson play a different role from her initial one in the game. Personally, I'd say they made the right call with this one. When fans initially expected a small cameo appearance from Johnson, perhaps this is one unexpectedly perfect role for the Last of Us original cast in the game.
The Last of Us TV series is slated for release on HBO on January 15, 2023.
