According to reporter Jeff Sneider, Kate Herron, who helmed the first season of the MCU series Loki, is set to direct an episode of the second season of The Last of Us.

While it is likely that she might helm more than one episode, she is only confirmed to be involved in one episode so far. It is also unknown which episode in the season she was assigned to direct.

Herron is known for directing all six episodes of the first season of Loki, which remains the biggest project that she is involved in so far in her career. She also directed episodes of Sex Education and co-wrote an upcoming episode of Doctor Who.

As we've seen in her work in the MCU series, there is no doubt that Herron is a great director of a genre TV show and her sensibilities can fit in a project like The Last of Us which also has an epic scale of its own.

During the first season, there were seven directors who worked across nine episodes including showrunners Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann. Peter Hoar, who directed the acclaimed third episode "Long, Long Time," received an Emmy nomination for his work.

It is curious to see whether there are more well-known directors that the show has recruited to work on the second season. We can safely say that whoever they hire to helm the episodes will have a daunting task based alone on the scope of the source material.

The first season of The Last of Us is available to stream on Max.
