Following a massive wave of Emmy nominations for HBO, network CEO Casey Bloys sat down with Variety to check in on the realm's favorite new duo. When asked about the status of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms season 2, Bloys delivered the news fans have been waiting for: "They're finishing up shooting season 2."

As for a potential season 3 coming along, "We'll see what [creator] Ira [Parker] and George [R.R. Martin] are thinking right now," Bloys continued, "But that was really nice to see the show break through. It's got a really sweet and unique tone, and it was kind of an experiment in varying the tones on what one would expect between Game of Thrones and House of the Dragon."

Considering the endless possibilities Ser Duncan the Tall and Egg could explore on their side of Westeros, a third season could have the potential to expose deeper lore into the maps that George R.R. Martin planted since Winterfell.

The upcoming six-episode season will continue adapting George R.R. Martin's second Tales of Dunk and Egg novella, The Sworn Sword.

Moving roughly a year and a half past the fateful Ashford Tourney, season 2 finds Ser Duncan (Peter Claffey) and Egg (Dexter Sol Ansell) in the Reach, where their journey continues through navigating a drought and a tense territorial war.

Fans can expect Dunk assessing his newfound role as a "sworn sword" bound to Ser Eustace Osgrey (played by newly cast Peter Mullan), plenty of localized friction as Dunk is forced to mediate a bitter water rights conflict against Lady Rohanne Webber (aka the Red Widow), who will be brought to life by Lucy Boynton.

Showrunner Ira Parker has also teased that while the show remains grounded, season 2 will lightly toy with rumors surrounding the Red Widow's mysterious connection to blood magic.

With filming officially concluding this summer, the series remains perfectly on track for its projected 2027 premiere window. Stay tuned!
