What's up with the collars in Netflix's The Influencer? The newest reality show flaunts Korea's biggest celebrities and trendsetters to compete in this battle for popularity using their total number of subscribers. As fun as the show is, fans find the game rules to be quite weird and they're not wrong about it, either.

Bringing together 77 of the most popular South Korean content creators in make-up, fitness, fashion, acting, etc., The Influencer pits each contestant based on their following from YouTube, Instagram, TikTok, AfreecaTV, and more.

However, this isn't the normal reality show K-Wave fans might immediately grow fond of, especially considering the controversial electric collars strapped around the idols' necks. What's up with that?

While it's easy to understand that the display of each influencer's following numbers is crucial to the game, fans found it profoundly disturbing to watch the Netflix show unfold.

How The Influencer Game Works (With the Collars On)

Ranging from 60,000 to 2 million followers, these 77 influencers have five rounds across 8 episodes to test and prove their worthiness to uphold their titles through their subscriber count.

As it turns out, The Influencer plans on distributing 300 million won split in 77 ways. This is how they'll do it.

The higher the following a participant has, the higher the amount of money they get by the end of the game. While each influencer will still get their own share from the 300 million won, they would have to defend their number from going down. How would they manipulate that?

Well, each of the players will be receiving 15 likes and 15 dislikes, numbers they are free to give among their fellow competitors.

Depending on the number of likes and dislikes they get each round, the total subscriber numbers will increase or decrease on their collars to keep track of their chances on the reality show.
