Several characters have come and gone throughout the course of The Boys, and the series' violent nature tends to keep audiences on their feet when it comes to the fate of their favorite characters.

With the final season incoming though, it does look like the show is ready to finally pull the rug from underneath the audience because they don’t have to keep a lot of the characters safe for a future season anymore.

Expect 'Lots of Deaths' in The Boys' Final Season

Talking to Total Film (via @CultureCrave), The Boys showrunner Eric Kripke talks about the development of the final season and the pressure to stick the landing when it comes to the finale. He says, "There will probably be lots of deaths ... So many series finales suck ... I feel lots and lots of pressure to end it well ... if we can stick the landing then people will be like, 'that was a great show' ... but if we shit the bed, people will say, 'Oh, it was a good show, but then they shit the bed'"

Though some characters have also managed to stay safe throughout the story because the plot kind of demands that they survive, Kripke also teased:

"There's no guarantee of who is going to survive because you don't have to keep them for another season ... we can have really shocking, big things happen all the time"

No further details have been revealed about what to expect with the story, but it does look like some fan-favorite characters aren’t going to be making it to the end credits alive.

Who Could Die in the Final Season of The Boys?

While multiple characters have managed to escape death for so long in the show, Kripke’s comments do suggest that the plot armor is coming off this time. Just off the bat, it does feel like the series is building up to a Homelander death; after all the terrible things he’s done throughout the show, it just won’t sit right with audiences that he’ll manage to be alive toward the end.

Butcher also seems like a likely candidate for death. It’s always been hinted that his desire to kill HL would lead to his own demise, and based on the events of the last season finale, it does look like Butcher is finally lost, and he could end up losing his life while taking Homelander’s. Then again, it’s possible that Hughie and the Boys would try to get Butcher back, and maybe they can get rid of Homelander without having to be so violent.

Of course, there is also the supporting cast which would likely be at the very top of the kill list. Members of the Seven are easily targetable because they’re so horrible, but maybe the series can squeeze one more season of Deep shenanigans before they decide to kill him.

As for the members of The Boys, it does seem like MM could be on the chopping block just because he’s the only remaining competent character of the bunch. When he has no arc to fulfill, it’s likely his death could be the driving force that gets Butcher and the rest of the team to get it together.

Of course, this is all just speculation.

The final season of The Boys is expected to be released on Amazon Prime Video sometime in 2026.
