There's been very little news about Matt Reeve's The Batman while Warner Brothers has been busy promoting the DC Extended Universe's next movie, James Wan's Aquaman, however, it looks like there's a new update about the Dark Knight's standalone movie.
According to a recent post by The Wrap's Umberto Gonzalez, critically-acclaimed director Matt Reeves just submitted the very first draft for his upcoming comic book movie to Warner Brothers earlier this September.
Now, word has it that the studio's been responding positively to the first draft of The Batman. With the first draft done, Reeves is currently out working on script revisions and Gonzalez says that Warner Brothers is eyeing "a hopeful summer 2019 production start" for the upcoming Batman standalone movie.
Not only that, but the writer also goes on to claim that right now "the current DC regime is committed to getting this take on the Caped Crusader correct," – a statement that might attract the DCEU's Ben Affleck and entice him to remain as the franchise's Batman. Though fans seemed to love Affleck's version of the Dark Knight, there was very poor reception towards Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and Justice League.
We're not quite sure how Reeves will handle the iconic DC hero or whether Affleck will return to reprise his role as Batman in the standalone movie, however, one thing is for certain: the show will go on.
The Batman movie doesn't have a release date yet, but we'll update everyone as soon as we get word.
