The Acolyte showrunner Leslye Headland recently opened up about how many seasons she's planning for the new series.

A lot of fans have been looking forward to The Acolyte since it is the first Star Wars series that is set in the High Republic era and will focus on brand-new characters and mythology that the live-action projects have never explored before.

One of the questions that fans have been wondering is the show's longevity and whether it will run for many seasons or it will conclude sooner than they might expect.

The Acolyte Showrunner Has Multiple Seasons Envisioned

In a recent interview, Headland was asked how many seasons she is envisioning for The Acolyte if she has the full creative freedom to tell the complete story of the characters.

She revealed that she has at least three seasons in mind for the series, but she is also open to doing it for a longer time.

"At least three. At least. I mean, I'd love to keep doing it forever," the showrunner said.

Amandla Stenberg, who plays Mae, added, "I would be chill if this was, like, my only job for a long time."

"That’s how I feel too! This is my dream job. I'm saying three because I'm hoping they'll allow me to do that, but if I could snap my fingers, it would just be, this is my job until I retire," Headland continued. "I actually can't think of a higher creative or career peak than working on Star Wars. So, I really am good. I don't really need to do anything else."

Just like any other new TV show that gets released, the longevity will always depend on the overall success of the first season

If The Acolyte ends up being both a critical and commercial success, it is highly likely that Disney+ and Lucasfilm will decide to do more seasons and Headland's plan will end up becoming a reality.

For now, we have to check what the first season looks like and whether the story does warrant a multi-season run. As long as there is positive engagement throughout the eight episodes, we can expect the series to run longer.

The first two episodes of The Acolyte will premiere on Disney+ this June 4.
